crazy day

lovies -

ok so i drove to vegas from phoenix yesterday and i got to see a bunch of joshua trees, lake mead and the hoover dam. which was pretty groovy. i checked in to the monte carlo in vegas and i now know why it was so cheap - there is so much construction going on down there around the hotel! i was a little beat so i didn't get around to much and i had to wake up early this morning... fyi, don't bother with diablo's at monte carlo - it looks cool but it sucks!

i am officially back in utard - home to the mo's (no they don't have horns), family home evening and being sponsored or becoming a member of a club so you can get yourself properly sloshed. oi vey! good thing this is just a abbreviaterd sojourn ;)

which leads to the crazy day. so i start driving from vegas to the salt slums (estimated drive time 5 hours - actual 7 1/2 hours) and of course i start out all exasperated because there were a ton of really annoying slow people blocking the freeway. i have a tendency to have a bit of a heavy foot and not so much patience when it comes to driving long distances slowly.

it's a bit funny how fate/life likes to play little tricks on me and make me slow down (quite literally). for example, when i hurt my foot in may i physically had to slow myself down. and like today - i'll admit i was driving fast-ish (90mph) and in the middle of nowhere (literally, i'm not kidding - look up kanosh, ut on mapquest - that was the closest "town") when my rear passenger tire blew. it was fairly terrifying. the person behind me totally freaked (as did i) but i was able to make it to the shoulder ok. by some random stroke of luck i actually had cell service (even though throughout the majority of the drive i didn't). i then had the most marvelous conversation with hertz: "hi, my tire blew out and i tried but i don't know how to change a tire. could you send help?" response: "where are you?" my response: "um, i don't know - in the middle of utah somewhere on I-15 going north? do you need me to be more specific?"

i think he may have laughed. i remembered a ranch exit but i couldn't remember how far away it was. i told the guy on the phone i would start walking to find a mile marker. just as i said that the nicest boy stopped and pulled over. my knight in a jeep. this kind of thing would only happen in utah! anyway - he fixed the tire and i was back on my way. but oh so slowly. i had 169 miles to salt lake and i was told to just bring the car back to the airport and that i shouldn't drive faster than 50 mph. FOR THE LOVE! GOOD FREAKING NIGHT :( can i just tell you how painful the drive was? of course, all of the people i had been cursing out for going too slow/passing earlier in the drive were just zooming past me all la dee da like. i got really bored - which lead to tiredness - which lead to me rolling down the windows and singing britney spears and madonna very loudly to the cows and horses along the way (i think they liked it). seriously, central utah is a complete wasteland of mega nothingness. i then started freaking out thinking i was hearing or smelling something else wrong with the car. all alone with my thoughts. thoughts provoked by frighteningly mindless britney lyrics. i'll leave it at that.

song of the day: hung up by madonna. "time goes by sooooooooooo slowly". it didn't help passing speed limit signs that said 75 mph speed limit every 5 seconds or the miles left signs that appeared every few miles. 139 miles to slc. 135 miles to slc. you are never going to get to slc because your anxious ass was trying to get there too fast. by the way, it's still 133 miles to slc. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

so i finally did get to slc and we ate at la poo poo (la puente - the best mexican food ever!) so i'm feeling much better.

bueno moments of the day: la puente and i got the eyebrows waxed and they look GOOD! they were uncouthly vulgar (to say the very least!)

FABU NEWS:

i am so excited - i am officially registered for the travel channel academy in nyc 11/1-11/4. they teach digital filmmaking and editing and what they look for stylistically. i have to create a piece while there so i'll post it here when it's done. i'm sure it's going to rule! ;) then, while i am traveling, i can send in segments and if they like them they will pay me for it. keep your fingers crossed that i can just do that forever moving forward!

also - i have planned an antarctica cruise for the end of the year. the baby penguins will be hatching - it should be awesome! here is a link if you want to check it out: http://www.gapadventures.com/tour/XFSSS

anyone up for europe in nov/beg of dec?

one last thing COUNTDOWN! - only 4 days til i see my boyfriend in the first of 5 shows (for those of you who thought the lead singer of interpol was really my boyfriend - he's not. he's just my pretend boyfriend. but lolita and jessica are going to see if we can do something about that ;) )
