greece

so i'm here and i have to say i am a little perplexed. i think i was thinking it would be all cuteness - high cliffs with white washed houses overlooking the ocean. athens is just pretty much another european city. granted, i haven't really gotten out yet and it's still my first day. the plane left 3 hours late so we were stuck on it for nearly 12 hours. which just about killed me. but flying over the adriatic this morning and seeing how gorgeous everything was from above was wonderful.

so it took a while to get to the hotel and of course i didn't sleep on the plane so i napped and then went out on a night tour of athens. which was so tacky that i had to leave - i couldn't stand it! i was falling asleep on the tour part (i'm using the term "tour" lightly here) on the bus and then they took us to this totally lame hall where 5 million other tourists poured in. the musicians then played "greek style music" - this included songs such as bluberry hill, guantamera, etc. i'm not kidding, i so wish i was :( then 3 people got up there and started to sing and it just blew. over it!

so my first day here, not exactly what i thought it would be. but i'm off to the acropolis and the national archaeological musuem tomorrow and both of those should be amazing. i'm going to also see if i can get on a tour to mykonos or one of the islands on saturday. wish me luck. sunday is delphi - major archaeological site and home to tons of old cool stuff, apparently.

then i'm off to italy to see more of my boyfriend and interpol. i am so excited! plus, sarah is coming out to spend the week with me so i'm sure we'll have a blast.
